Thattukada style Kozhi Porichathu/Kerala Chicken Fry

This is another recipe I have been wanting to post from a long time.The recipe of this thattukada(roadside eatery)style chicken fry comes from my husband who loves the delicious thattukada dosas and omelettes!.The marinated chicken has to be fried in coconut oil and the fried curry leaves adds such a wonderful aroma to the fried chicken.

Ingredients

Chicken drumsticks = 4
Ginger-Garlic paste = 1tsp
Coriander powder = 3/4tsp
Red chilli(piriyan molagu) powder = 3/4tsp
Turmeric powder = 1/8tsp
Garam masala powder = 1/2tsp
Rice flour = 1/2tsp
Salt = to taste

Coconut oil = 1/2cup
Curry leaves = 2 to 3 sprigs
Green chillies = 5nos
Lemon = 1no

Method

Clean the chicken drumsticks,Pat dry and make few slits on them
Make a paste of all the marinade ingredients using lime juice
Marinate the chicken for an hour atleast,refrigerated
Heat the oil in a pan and fry the chicken in medium-low heat till brown on all sides
Drain on kitchen paper
In the same oil deep fry curry leaves and slit green chillies(remove the seeds from the chillies to reduce heat)
Garnish the fried chicken with lemon wedges,fried curry leaves & chillies

Ashaakka - Thank you dear,I am waiting for the chitranna recipe,Kesari murgh looks so delicious.I wouldnt mind sparing 1/4tsp saffron for that dish!

Manjula - Ya Manjula isnt that colour good,there is a sort of chilli known as piriyan mulagu in malayalam,the chilli powder was of those chillis,i guess thats why that colour!

Kitchenfairy - me too fairy,have never been able to go to thattukada myself,though i have had some non veg dishes which my hubby has got home from there.He brings it specially to the women in the house,who otherwise will not go to a roadside thattukada.

I think that rice flour would give nice crisp to the fry! I never thought of adding when i make..Thanx for sharing Sumitha!

Mishmash - You are right,I would chose thattukada too!mouthwatering and spicy food,yum!

KA - Thank you KA!Do try and hope you will enjoy it!

Dhanya - You can use cornflour instead of rice flour too,my hubbys says that now even in thattukadas they use cornflour bz it is easily available.almost of the same price as rice flour,spares them the process of soaking drying rice etc, and cornflour is also finer than rice flour and give more crispness.
